Ricardo Carvalho Shares a Special Bond With Jose Mourinho

Former Chelsea FC and current Monaco center back Ricardo Carvalho hailed Jose Mourinho’s managerial abilities in an interview with French sports site L’Equipe. Carvalho initially played under Mourinho at Porto and Chelsea and experienced tremendous success with both clubs, winning a Champions League trophy and five league titles combined. He was one of the first players Mourinho brought over to Chelsea when he took the reins in West London as he saw Carvalho as the perfect match for John Terry in the heart of the Chelsea defense.

Carvalho’s comments on Mourinho:

"“He sees games better than other coaches, that’s for sure. We haven’t always agreed on things, because he is too demanding, but I’ve won a lot with him. He asked a huge amount of me, and I grew up thanks to him.”"

This is high praise from a man who literally grew up while being managed by Mourinho and clearly knows him extremely well. It also shows precisely the type of manager Mourinho is in that he demands perfection from his players but because of his style of man management, his players will give their all to please him.

Carvalho was an integral part of the league and FA Cup winning sides at Chelsea during Mourinho’s first stint there. When Carvalho’s time at Chelsea came to an end it was none other than Jose Mourinho that brought him in to his Real Madrid that won both a league title and the Copa Del Rey during his tenure there. As his career winds down at AS Monaco and when he eventually hangs up his boots, Carvalho can take a look at his winner’s medals and think himself lucky for spending so much time with The Special One.
