Last season when Chelsea FC traveled to Villa Park, there was one thing on Frank Lampard’s mind, go home with a decisive win and all three points. Or at least that is what he would probably tell you, even though there may have been a thought or two about breaking Bobby Tambling’s long standing record of most goals scored for Chelsea. Chelsea were down 1-0 and had Ramires sent off just before halftime. Things were looking bleak for the Blues, but who should step up, none other than Super Frank. With the equalizer in the 61st minute, Lampard equaled Tambling’s record and the momentum swung back to Chelsea. In the 88th minute, Lampard finished off a brilliant Chelsea move that rewrote the record books at Stamford Bridge and sealed the victory for the Blues.

Lampard spoke about the moment and the return to Villa Park:

"“It’ll always be a great memory for me in football, one of my best, so it’ll be nice to go back there. The past is certainly heavily on my mind at a lot of places we go to. As a personal moment Villa will always stay with me, while Bolton is always a good one to go back to from when we won the league there for the first time…One day, when I think back to it all, it will be with completely lovely feelings. I think I’ll forget the negatives ones because we’ve been lucky to have had so many good memories here that they will supersede it all anyway.”"

It is with this wonderful memory that Lampard will look to build on when he makes his return to Villa Park. Last season the Blues were more concerned with sealing a top four finish but this time around they are firmly in the title race. A win would see them remain seven points clear of Liverpool before they face Manchester United on Sunday. Lampard and the Blues will be all business when they make the trip but the midfielder will look to add to his goal tally at the ground where he rewrote Chelsea history.
