Edin Dzeko’s goal within 45 seconds of kickoff proved to be the difference today as Manchester City utterly dominated Manchester United at Old Trafford. With the victory, City move withing three points of Chelsea FC with two games in hand and the Premier League title is surely theirs to lose. City have some tough matches ahead but they will be hard to beat in their current Premier League form that includes a 500+ minute goalless streak for their opposition.

Chelsea fans should have known better than to trust a hapless Manchester United to win against their local rivals but they were expected to at least put up a fight. United were coming off their “historic” 3-0 victory over Olympiakos and a comprehensive victory over West Ham but the trend of United’s season continued and they took three steps back for every step forward. Now Chelsea fans will have to root for a pair of their rivals to trip up Manchester City as they face Arsenal and Liverpool with a date with Southampton in between.

Manchester City’s match next weekend against Arsenal may be tricky but the Gunners seem to be in a downward spiral since their hiding at Stamford Bridge. The trip to Anfield will also be difficult but Chelsea also have to make the same trip. The only consolation Chelsea fans can take is that the unpredictable nature of this Premier League season could see City drop points in any of their matches against lesser opposition.

They have lost matches to Aston Villa, Cardiff City, and Sunderland this season which clearly are not the cream of the Premier League crop. The title race could and likely will come down to the final day and Chelsea fans will find out soon enough if the points dropped against Stoke City, Aston Villa, and more will be fatal to the Blues’ title hopes.
