Amid the talk about Chelsea FC chasing a striker, some seem to have forgotten that they have a fine one in Romelu Lukaku returning to Stamford Bridge in the summer. Many seem to be convinced that Lukaku will not be returning to Chelsea because manager Jose Mourinho does not rate the youngster or that the two have some kind of longstanding feud since the UEFA Super Cup last September. Lukaku was finally asked by

The Mirror about the rumors of the feud and he said that “there were arguments in the press and stuff, but I don’t know where it came from”.

The rumors of the feud stemmed mostly from the late loan to Everton and comments that Mourinho made claiming that loan players should not speak about their situation. Lukaku has often gone out of his way to explain that he has no ill will towards Chelsea or Mourinho and that he is simply focused on being an Everton player and working to improve his game.

Lukaku’s comments on his desire to improve and for regular football:

"“My desire to improve and be the best I can be explains everything – I could have stayed at Chelsea and played a few games this season, but how can you reach your best level if you have a year when you don’t play so much?”“As a youngster, you normally have to play. How will you be one of the best not playing? Look at Rooney, Ronaldo, Drogba – every top striker. They always played. They played constantly, always, all the time. Games, games, games. I just want to be one of them – that is my ambition, I just want to be one of those guys, I don’t play football to show off or to make money, I play because of my pride and because I love the game.”“I know I am good at it sometimes, but good is not good enough – you have to be perfect. That’s why I am here. To play games, to help the team reach that level, and to improve my game. If we [Everton] get fourth I’ll be proud of myself.”"

Lukaku is a fine young striker and at only 20 years old he has plenty of room for improvement. If, or more likely when, Chelsea does add another striker that they consider world class, there is no reason not to keep Lukaku and use him as the second striker. He may not play as much as he would on loan but he can finally help Chelsea when he is banging in goals in a blue shirt.
