Chelsea FC manager Jose Mourinho said at the club’s end of season awards ceremony that he is happy with the progression the club has made but expects to not only challenge for the Premier League title next season but to win it. The Blues were in the title race until the second to last day of the season and were only mathematically eliminated when Manchester City essentially wrapped up the title with a win against Aston Villa. The more frustrating thing for Mourinho must have been the fact that Chelsea bottled the title against teams that they had no business losing against.

"It’s good to be back but it’s not good to finish third. I’m happy with the evolution, but I’m not happy with third. Next season we want to do better than we did. We have to do better, I have to do better, the players have to do better. I have great belief in them and I think next season we can start day one and we can say without any kind of fears that we are there not to fight for the title, to win it."

Chelsea did the double against eventual champions Manchester City and runner ups Liverpool but somehow contrived to finish third behind the two teams. It was not a motivation issue as that is not usually the case against Mourinho teams but there were complaints from fans that the players would come down to the level of their competition. Some of that was also the lack of a true creative midfielder other than Eden Hazard after Oscar’s shocking drop in form late in the season.

Jose Mourinho will look to add some more creative flair in the middle of the park but will not sacrifice his team’s defensive attitude or shape. He will also add another striker which he has rumored to have already done in Atletico Madrid’s Diego Costa. The squad will undergo a major change as Mourinho chases another Premier League title.
