We here at The Pride of London would like to wish Chelsea FC striker Demba Ba a very happy birthday and many happy returns! The Senegalese forward turned 29 today and if recent reports and quotes from Ba are to be taken as fact, then he will be celebrating his 30th birthday as a member of the Blues as well.

Ba was born in in Sevres, Paris and grew up in Saint-Valery-en-Caux, Seine-Maritime. He joined his first youth club at just seven years old and bounced around between different academy sides. In 2004 he moved to the United Kingdom and underwent trials at several clubs including Swansea City and Gillingham but was unable to find a permanent place anywhere.

Demba Ba signed his first professional contract with French club Rouen and played there for one year before moving to Belgium to play for Mouscron. In 2007, Ba moved to 2.Bundesliga side 1899 Hoffenheim and helped them earn promotion to the top flight and then had a successful campaign in his first season in the Bundesliga.

After that season, he had agreed to a move to West Ham United but failed his medical and words like “ticking time bomb” were used to describe his knee. Ba moved to Newcastle United after the move to West Ham fell through and he spent a season and a half there before moving to Chelsea in January of 2013.

Since moving to Chelsea, Ba has not been the same prolific goalscorer he was at Newcastle (29 goals in 58 games) but he scored some very important goals for the Blues. Not only were those goals important but some of them were spectacular as well with the overhead kick against Manchester City being the standout goal. If Demba Ba is to play a bigger role next year for the Blues then his experience shows that he is more than ready for the spotlight.
