Chelsea FC midfielder Frank Lampard gave an interview to Female First and admitted that he may not be at Chelsea next season but is ready to move on in life. Lampard says that he has mentally prepared himself for the end of his career since he turned 30 and that if it ended now he “wouldn’t have any regrets” and why should he?
Frank Lampard has won every club trophy available to him, some of them several times. He has won the Premier League, FA Cup, Champions League, and even the Europa League for good measure so there is nothing he has not accomplished at the club level. He is also the top all-time goalscorer for Chelsea and will go down as one of the greatest players in the history of the club so if he is ready to call it quits then he has every right to do so.
Frank Lampard on his future and desire to play football:
“I don’t know if I’ll be at Chelsea next season. I’d like to carry on for two or three more years, but it would be good to end on a high. So, if that means it all ends tomorrow, I wouldn’t have any regrets. You know your shelf life, so I started to mentally prepare when I hit 30. I’ve been doing this for a long time, so there’s a part of me that’s looking forward to the future.
Christine [Bleakley] would tell you that no matter how long in the tooth I am in football years, if I have a bad game, I’m miserable for a couple of days. I want to be the best I can, and I’m upset with myself when I’m not. I am intrigued to see who I am when I stop experiencing those extreme highs and lows. I feel ready to handle it, because I’ve got other things, like the books.”
It will be a sad day when Frank Lampard is no longer a player for Chelsea Football Club. More so than any player other than John Terry, Lampard IS Chelsea and the club has been bettered by his presence both on and off the pitch. There is still hope that he will return for at least one more season and if he does then hopefully he can leave with one more notch on his belt and another trophy in his cabinet.
