Fabregas has been at Barcelona since 2011 but his time there has been full of drama and he never quite settled. Despite growing up in the Barcelona academy, his more direct style never quite meshed with the Catalan club and he was often a square peg in a round hole. He never clashed openly with his managers or teammates but there was always a cloud of doubt hanging over Fabregas at the Nou Camp.

Cesc Fabregas on signing with Chelsea:

"“Firstly I would like to thank everyone at FC Barcelona where I enjoyed three wonderful years. It was my childhood club and I will always be proud and honoured that I had a chance to play for such a great team. I do feel that I have unfinished business in the Premier League and now is the right time to return.I considered all the other offers very carefully and I firmly believe that Chelsea is the best choice. They match my footballing ambitions with their hunger and desire to win trophies. They have an amazing squad of players and an incredible manager. I am fully committed to this team and I can’t wait to start playing.”Source: ChelseaFC.com"

Fabregas will slot in to either attacking number 10 role or the deeper central midfield role alongside Nemanja Matic or Ramires. He is a fine signing and a player with a championship pedigree both at the club and international level. Hopefully he is just the first of many high profile signings that Chelsea will make this summer.
