Chelsea FC finally announced the signing of Mario Pasalic from Hajduk Split after the move was rumored to be in the works since January of this year. The move was believed to have occurred last January but for whatever reason the club has not announced the move yet. There were even quotes from Chelsea technical director Michael Emenalo in April who said “Mario has grown at Hajduk [Split]. In the summer he has to go to a club where he will continue to evolve in order to one day play at Stamford Bridge”. So officially Mario Pasalic has been a Chelsea player since the last transfer window but the official announcement was made only today.

Mario Pasalic is a central attacking midfielder who some pundits have already dubbed the new Luka Modric. This is high praise for the youngster being compared to the little Real Madrid and Croatia playmaker but Pasalic also adds a physical presence at 6’1″ that Modric does not. He has a goal scoring touch as evidenced by his 11 goals in 32 appearances in what is his first season in the Hajduk senior squad. Pasalic made his debut in April 2013 and also led the Hajduk U-19 squad to a championship in 2012.

The youngster is very excited to join the club and he told the Chelsea official website, “I am very happy because I am now a Chelsea player. I am very impressed by the training ground and I must thank everybody at Hajduk. This is now a new start in my career”. He also shared that his “favorite player is Frank Lampard, so I am very happy to be a Chelsea player”. Must be nice to be able to represent the same club as your favorite player. According to the announcement, Mario Pasalic will join the Blues for the first preseason training session today.
