Jose Mourinho told Chelsea FC.com that he is done in the transfer window and that he is happy with the squad and new signings that he has at his disposal. Many fans and pundits believed that last year’s squad was not a typical Mourinho squad. This would make sense considering he only had one summer transfer window to undo the work of the long list of interim and temporary managers who have lead Chelsea since his first reign ended.

The moves began last summer with the signing of Andre Schurrle and Willian and continued with the sale of Juan Mata, Kevin De Bruyne, and the subsequent purchase of Nemanja Matic and Mohamed Salah. Mourinho was getting rid of players that did not fit his system and was opting for more physical players with the power and pace he needs for his counter attacking style.

“We are so happy with the squad we have. We feel that the correct squad is exactly this type of squad we have, with people like Didier and John Terry, but at the same time people like [Andreas] Christensen and [Nathan] Ake.We have the squad we want and, I repeat, the club was fantastic in the way they worked so hard and so fast to get Diego [Costa], Filipe [Luis] and [Cesc] Fabregas. Thibaut [Courtois] to return was something obvious. Kurt Zouma we did six months ago. We are happy, and we trust them. We did the job very well. We are outside the market now.”

This summer Jose Mourinho did some more housekeeping with the sale of David Luiz, Demba Ba, and of course most recently Romelu Lukaku. Those three players were sold for different reasons but the common denominator is that Mourinho did not want them in his squad for whatever reason. He also added power, pace, and experience through the additions of Diego Costa, Cesc Fabregas, Filipe Luis, and Didier Drogba. Not a bad return for one summer of wheeling and dealing.

However these comments should be taken with a grain of salt just like everything else Mourinho says. He may be saying that Chelsea is done in the transfer market but actually be working on a deal behind the scenes. Whatever the case may be this is certainly beginning to look more and more like a Mourinho squad and what Mourinho squads do best is win trophies and bring home silverware.
