Will Chelsea FC Regret Selling David Luiz?

Chelsea FC sold one of their fan favorites last summer in David Luiz and naturally many fans were not happy about it. Once the fee of £50 million was reported some of the sting of the sale wore off but some fans were still not pleased. Then after his poor performance in the World Cup, especially when he was badly exposed against Germany in the semifinal, the consensus seemed to be that the sale was worth it because Luiz was just not good enough for Chelsea.

Some believed that he was simply playing out of position at centerback for the Blues but even in central midfield he was far too rash and unpredictable to play there inconsistently. It was that rashness and unpredictability that made him such a threat in attack but of course left him and his defense exposed.

David Luiz on Chelsea regretting his sale and the memories he made at the club:

"I have to believe that Chelsea or any team will miss me. I’m not arrogant but I’m confident in my own abilities. Paris paid a lot for me so they obviously believe in me – it is nice to be at a club where they really want you and where they show belief in you.I have good memories of Chelsea. I won the Champions League. I hope it’s not my only victory. I believe I can win it again with Paris. I have as much chance of winning major trophies here as at Chelsea or any other club in Europe.”Source: Sky Sports"

While David Luiz is a rare talent when he is focused and disciplined, he is far too rash and undisciplined to be an everyday player for Chelsea. There was always talk about Luiz not being a Jose Mourinho player and it appears that talk was spot on. Luiz never fit the bill of a strong and disciplined defender or midfielder in Mourinho’s system and while he achieved great things with Chelsea they will certainly not regret selling him.
