Group Overview

Chelsea have been drawn into Group G for the 2014/15 Champions League Group Stages. They are joined by Schalke, Sporting Lisbon and Maribor. Chelsea will be strong favourites to progress from the Group Stage in first place and will be very happy with how the draw, which took place in Monaco, unfolded. They meet German side Schalke for the second year running, having beaten them in both home and away ties last season.

It will be a first meeting with Portuguese side Sporting Lisbon for Chelsea and will be a chance for Mourinho to return to the country where he hails from and also began his managerial career. Finally Chelsea will face home and away games against Slovenian side Maribor, which will again be a first meeting between the two clubs. It is only the second time they have made it into the Champions League proper and they will rely on the fact that they are more of an unknown quantity to make any impact in Group G.
