If you are a fan of Chelsea FC then you have surely heard the news about Fernando Torres’s two year loan deal to join Serie A side AC Milan. Milan had been on the search for a striker after selling Mario Balotelli to Liverpool for a reported £16 million. Why they would swap Balotelii for Fernando Torres is a bit of a mystery but all that matters is it happened.

This move has been rumored to happen for several weeks now but many Chelsea fans could scarcely believe it. The reports floated around that Milan was interested in taking Fernando Torres on loan with an option to buy the player at the end of the deal. The same reports also suggested that Milan would not take on all of Torres’s wages and that they were a major stumbling block in the deal.

"Chelsea Football Club and AC Milan have agreed terms for the two-year loan deal of Fernando Torres to the Italian club. The move is now subject to Fernando agreeing personal terms with AC Milan and passing a medical examination.Source: ChelseaFC.com"

As the statement above from Chelsea FC suggests, the move is still subject to Fernando Torres and AC Milan agreeing on wages and the striker must still pass a physical. It is strange to see a loan being held up by a player coming to personal terms with his loan club but this is certainly not your everyday loan deal.

It is unique because it involves such a high profile player and it also seems to be just a stopgap before a permanent deal is agreed. AC Milan is shifting their transfer policy to focus on veterans available on free transfers or youngsters.

Buying Fernando Torres reflects a slight change in that policy but the fact that it is a loan deal takes the sting off the fee and the wages. We are still waiting on updates on when the deal is finalized but it will surely take place within the week.
