Chelsea FC: Kurt Zouma Happy In Limited Role

Chelsea FC defender Kurt Zouma is not first choice at the club but insists he is happy with his limited role because he feels he is progressing. Zouma has made a handful of appearances for the Blues and was handed a start against League Two side Shrewsbury Town just three days ago. It was Kurt Zouma’s third start of the season, the other coming against Bolton Wanderers in the League Cup and NK Maribor in the Champions League.

Three starts is no mean feat for a player who just turned 20 years old this week. Jose Mourinho appears to be making getting Kurt Zouma a great deal of first team experience in case he is needed in a pinch for a big match. He is third in the centerback rotation behind Gary Cahill and John Terry which is surprising considering many believed that would be Branislav Ivanovic.

"“I feel very well, I am very happy to be here. We have a very good and strong team. We are working very hard to win trophies. I am making progress when I play, when the coach gives me a chance. I am also learning from very good players in John Terry and Gary Cahill. We have a lot of games to play this season and when I have my chance, I try to be my best and play a very good game.“Before I played in France and this is very different for me. I hope I will play a lot of games in the Premier League, it’s a good League. I am enjoying it. For youngsters it’s a very good opportunity to play and show our level, we have to win matches. The coach has told us that.”-Kurt ZoumaSource: London Evening Standard"

Many young players face the difficult transition of going from playing 2-3 matches a week to 2-3 matches a month when they first move to a big club. This has not been the case as Kurt Zouma tries to unseat Gary Cahill and John Terry from their perch atop the centerback depth chart. They may be in no real danger right now but it is comforting to know that if something were to happen to the pair then Kurt Zouma would be ready to step in and perform.
