Former Chelsea FC player Kevin de Bruyne could return to the Premier League as Manchester City are rumoured to be preparing a £50million bid for the midfielder, reports The Express.

De Bruyne left the Blues in January of last year, essentially being deemed surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge. His £18mllion move to Wolfsburg ended two years in West London, if you could really call it that.

After signing a five and a half year deal in January 2012, he remained with Genk for the rest of the season. He then spent the 2012/13 season on loan at Werder Bremen scoring 10 goals in 33 league games.

Although being assured of first team football in the following campaign, the Belgian only made 9 appearances in all competitions for the senior team. His time at Stamford Bridge ended after Chistamas, when he moved permanently to Wolfsburg.

He has since gone on to become a pivotal part of the German side, appearing 51 times in the last campaign. Moreover, he scored 16 goals and added 27 assists to the cause.

Perhaps on a more relevant note, his departure coupled with that of Andre Schurrle earlier this year paved the way for the so far disastrous acquisition of Juan Cuadrado.

Now, it might really come back to haunt Jose Mourinho.

At only 24 years of age, de Bruyne has evolved into hot property having been given the opportunity to actually play week-in-week out at a top level. So hot, in fact, that Manchester City feel him worthy of a £50million bid.

UEFA lifted the transfer restrictions placed on the Manchester club for breaking Financial Fair Play after they abided by the regulations last season. With this, it appears as though they may flash the cash in a pursuit of the Belgian international.

Blues fans undoubtedly will want the midfielder to excel, especially given his relatively poor treatment during his time/lack of time at Stamford Bridge, but a move back to the Premier League is certain to worry them.

For starters, there is no telling the abuse Chelsea supporters will cop if de Bruyne were to somehow negatively influence the Blues in any way.

At least for now, though, this bid seems far from concrete and thus there shouldn’t be many concerns yet. However, the West London club and all affiliated with it will certainly be keeping a close eye on developments.
