Three Home Games in Six Days: Time To Kick-Start Chelsea FC’s Season

Chelsea FC face Scunthorpe United, West Bromwich Albion and Everton at Stamford Bridge over the next six days. If the team is finally back on track, then victory in each game is a must.

Chelsea FC’s victory against Crystal Palace finally put a smile back on the faces of most supporters as the team actually played like the champions they are. In order to push on, the Blues must win the next three games, all of which are at Stamford Bridge. By doing so, the fans can genuinely believe that Chelsea FC are back on the right path.

I am tempted to say that the Scunthorpe game is easy, but given what happened against Bradford last year in addition to the club’s ridiculous form thus far, there are no easy games for Chelsea.

Despite that, the squad should be confident going into the game. My hope is that Guus Hiddink plays a strong team that includes Diego Costa, Oscar, Willian and Nemanja Matic. He should also give opportunities to Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Kennedy and Baba Rahman. Chelsea come into the tie on the back of the strong performance at Selhurst Park and the players should use this opportunity to start the cup run on an entertaining platform.

Following this, the club face West Bromwich Albion on Wednesday night. This game is important as the Baggies are currently three points ahead of the Blues in the table. A win will allow the West Londoners to leapfrog them and climb a few places. Tony Pulis’ teams are notoriously well-organised but a front four of Diego Costa, Willian, Pedro and Oscar should cause enough problems to ensure a clear victory.

The final game in the three game home-stand is against Everton next Saturday. This is the toughest fixture that Chelsea have over the next six days. Annoyingly, Romelu Lukaku is on form and will be a big threat. Everton’s attacking players consisting of Aaron Lennon, Gerard Deulofeu, Arouna Kone and Kevin Mirallas have been giving Premier League defences headaches throughout the season.

However, Everton are very shaky at the back. They have been conceding goals regularly and there will be opportunities for Cesc Fabregas to work his magic and set up our attackers. It will be a tough game but if Lukaku can be shackled, the porousness of the Toffees’ defence will allow the Blues a victory.

The importance of this game is also due to Everton’s position in the table. They currently sit 11th only four points above Chelsea. They travel to the Etihad Stadium to face Manchester City on Wednesday night and will hopefully drop points. Thus, there is the strong possibility that Guus Hiddink’s men could be poised to pass them with a win next weekend.

These next three home games will highlight whether Chelsea FC have finally turned the corner. They are important because earlier in the season the club were losing these type of fixtures but now the players seem ready and focused to start climbing the table. West Brom and Everton are just above the Blues and victories against these close rivals will hopefully be the start of a extended strong run.

By next Saturday evening Blues fans should expect to be into the fourth round of the FA Cup and on 29 points in the Premier League. These three home games in six days will confirm to the supporters whether Chelsea are actually getting back to something like their best.
