Talented youngster Charly Musonda is heading out on loan to Real Betis, according to reports, in a move that Chelsea FC fans may not be too pleased about.

Chelsea have gained notoriety for not taking advantage of the insane amount of talent that they possess in their academy. They are set to further justify this reputation this week with the latest reports claiming that exciting youngster Charly Musonda is set to join Real Betis on loan.

The Telegraph takes the deal as fact, stating that the agreement is initially set to last until the summer, but the Spanish club have the option to extend it by another season if they so desire.

"Musonda will move to Spain to play first-team football until the end of the season, when there is an option to extend the loan by a further 12 months."

This news will undoubtedly disappoint swathes of Blues fans. With Chelsea playing for little more than pride this season, there is a perfect opportunity to bleed the likes of Musonda into the senior squad. The team may be chasing FA Cup and Champions League silverware, but given how highly the midfielder is regarded, he could have slotted in seamlessly.

Musonda opted to stay at Stamford Bridge this summer after Jose Mourinho appeared to be eager to utilise him. This did not materialise and the Belgian has been forced to while away time playing with the youth teams. Despite being only 19 years of age, Musonda is far beyond his contemporaries and is in dire need of top-level competitive football.

From that point of view, you can understand why the player chose to accept the offer from Betis. However, Blues supporters will still be angered by the fact that he could not be afforded game time in a lost Premier League campaign. The midfielder was even invited to train with the senior team a week or so ago, only to be left out again.

Furthermore, it is surprising that a higher quality team did not come in for Musonda. Betis, although once a Champions League outfit, are floundering in La Liga at the moment. They are down in 14th position with only four points separating them from the relegation zone.

Now, the more witty among us will crack a joke referring to Chelsea’s league position and yeah whatever. Frankly speaking, this is far from ideal for the youngster. For a player with so much potential talent, forcing him to essentially carry a team at such a tender age is not a smart move.
