Loic Remy’s Chelsea career goes from bad to worse with return
Loic Remy is not having the best of times contracted to Chelsea. His Blues career took another disappointing turn when he returned from his loan spell almost immediately.
Chelsea have experienced some problems with putting together a decent strike force in recent seasons. The likes of Radamel Falcao and Alexandre Pato have come and gone, while Didier Drogba returned for a year to little effect. Loic Remy has been another disappointing acquisition and the Frenchman has just returned from his loan spell at Crystal Palace, a week after joining them.

Remy has come back to Stamford Bridge after picking up an injury while training with Palace. The extent of the thigh injury has been deemed serious enough for him to be treated by the Chelsea medical staff.

This is yet another setback in Loic Remy’s Chelsea career. The striker was bought in the summer of 2014 as the Blues looked to bolster their attack. As a QPR player on loan at Newcastle United during the previous season, he scored 14 goals in 26 Premier League appearances, thoroughly impressing.

His first season at Stamford Bridge was underwhelming, but not poor. Used mostly as a substitute, he contributed nine goals as Chelsea lifted both the League Cup and the Premier League.
His 2015/16 campaign, though, was plagued by injuries. The Frenchman was unable to make an impression, taking the field on only 13 league occasions and scoring just one league goal.
It was widely expected that he would leave this summer, but a last minute loan deal was all he got. Nevertheless, the move across London to become the leader of Crystal Palace’s attack was seen as a great opportunity to prove his worth. It was a chance to play each week and show the world what he has to offer.

However, Remy is now back in West London after a week. This thigh injury is just another knock in a concerning line of body-related problems. For a man of just 29 years of age, there should still be much football left in him. Injuries cast doubt on that sentiment.
The issue now is whether any other club is willing to take a risk on signing him. Alan Pardew was in desperate need for strikers and Loic Remy was seen as a saviour. Alongside Christian Benteke, they were supposed to lead Palace out of their slump.
With Remy’s body once again falling short, many other managers may deem him a player not worth taking a chance on.
