Chelsea FC Transfer Target: Moussa Sissoko
Newcastle United midfielder Moussa Sissoko recently revealed that he is a transfer target of Chelsea FC, or so he says at least. Sissoko was asked by a French news outlet about interest from the Blues and he replied, as quoted by London24.com, “Is he (Jose Mourinho) following my progress? According to what I am hearing, yes,” he told French outlet RMC. “He is one of the best managers in the world. He has won so many titles… Any player would love to be coached by this man.
He continued, “For the moment, I am coached by other people (John Carver). If one day I have the chance to work under his guidance, I would be very happy. For the moment, I am still at Newcastle and I feel good over there. There is no problem”. So regardless of whether this speculation or interest is true, we decided to take a closer look at the French international and see what he is all about.
Name: Moussa Sissoko
Date of Birth: August 16th, 1989 (age 25)
Birthplace: Le Blanc-Mesnil, France
Nationality: French
Sissoko is a central midfielder and is considered to be one of the more well rounded players in the Premier League. He has 11 goals in 94 appearances for Newcastle United since arriving from Toulouse on a six and a half year deal in 2013 and has done most of his damage in the league. He has shown a penchant for scoring important goals and made himself comfortable in England very quickly.
Just a week after signing for Newcastle in 2013, Sissoko scored two goals against Chelsea FC in the club’s 3-2 loss to the Magpies and has been an instrumental player ever since. He also scored the opening goal on the final day of the 2014-15 season in a victory over West Ham which guaranteed Newcastle’s safety and kept them in the top flight.
He operates primarily in the deep-lying central midfield and would be a nice piece to have alongside Nemanja Matic. At 6’2″ he brings the same level of physicality as Matic but has also shown the ability to score from both inside and outside the box. Strength and pace are the best components of his game and he is not afraid of throwing in a tough tackle from time to time.
Sissoko would give Chelsea another tough central midfielder and his versatility could be a key asset if they do lose John Obi Mikel this summer. At £20 million, he could also be a cheaper alternative to the £60 million man Paul Pogba if he chooses to stay at Juventus or complete a rumored move to Barcelona.
The Newcastle man may not have the star potential of his young compatriot but he could play a big role in providing depth and steel to a Chelsea FC midfield that was light in both after Mikel’s midseason injury. If Chelsea do sign him, it could be one of those under the radar moves that help a club win titles, much like the addition of Loic Remy prior to this season.
