Diego Costa had a great first season at Chelsea FC, netting a remarkable 20 times in 26 league appearances for the Blues. After arriving at Stamford Bridge with a hefty £32million price tag, the pressure was on Costa to continue where he left off at Atlético Madrid and he didn’t fail to deliver. If it wasn’t for injury troubles there’s no doubt that his tally would be closer to the 30 mark.
With all this, let’s take a moment to count-down the top 7 Diego Costa goals from the 2014/2015 season. As he failed to score in any cup competition, these all come from the Premier League, but who’s complaining.
Why top 7? Well, because there were a couple that I couldn’t really leave out.

This is great football. A quick exchange between the always silky Eden Hazard and Cesc Fabregas finds the Spaniard ploughing into the byline. He looks up to spot Costa essentially free on the edge of the six-yard box and neatly cuts it back for the striker to place it into the roof of the net.
This would be Costa’s second goal of his first and only hat-trick in a blue shirt. Let’s hope for plenty more this season.

Apologies for the picture quality, that was the best that I could find…

This is another piece of smooth football that highlights Costa’s defence splitting movement. The ball finds its way out to Branislav Ivanovic on the right, who deftly plays it back inside to Hazard. The Belgian drives further towards the middle before spotting Costa’s darting run and feeding him the reverse pass. Costa finishes it clinically across the goalkeeper.
This would be part of a comfortable 2-0 victory.

A slightly more direct goal, but requiring no less skill than any other one on this list. Oscar cuts in on the left hand side before playing an inch perfect cross into Costa. The ball, in fact, was so accurate that it forced the striker to take it on his chest. His touch takes the pace off the ball, and sets him up to place it easily past the goalkeeper on the volley.
Again, the Blues would win this game 2-0 with Hazard getting the other goal.

It’s the first entry on this list that features Costa scoring away from Stamford Bridge. Fabregas pushes the ball into the striker’s path down the left flank. Despite being in a wide position, he ignores the runs of Ramires and Willian and takes a shot himself. Costa manages to squeeze it through two Hull defenders and right into the far side of the goal.
“Quite brilliant,” exclaims the commentator. We won’t disagree.
Chelsea would come out on top in this five-goal thriller. Loic Remy would net a 77th minute winner with the game ending 3-2.

Great team play coupled with a great finish here. Hazard directs an audacious scoop towards Oscar, who flicks it with his instep first time to Costa. He takes a touch and fakes a shot before finally pulling the trigger dragging the ball across his body into the bottom left corner. He also takes a tumble for his efforts.
How did this game end? Yep, we’re back to 2-0…

This is a great single effort from Costa. He gets fed the ball some 30 yards out before he turns to face four West Ham defenders. Unphased, he continues on and sells three of them with a simple cut-back on the edge of the box. A left-footed finish follows as he powers the ball across Adrián into the far bottom corner.
This Boxing Day fixture would also finish 2-0, and actually be the third consecutive 2-0 win for the Blues. Yeah, good trivia that. Go and tell all of your mates.

While the rest of these goals involved some sort of intricate passing, this goal is as close to route one as the Blues get. Having said that, the route one part of it looks good too. Chelsea catch Arsenal out on the counter-attack and Fabregas spots the run of Costa. He proceeds to play a delightful FIFA-esque through ball over the top right into the striker’s path. A touch with his chest sets the ball up to be lifted neatly over the head of Wojciech Szczęsny.
2-0 again…nothing to see here…
