Chelsea FC players litter the FIFA 16 Top 50 list
With the latest instalment of EA Sports’ award-winning FIFA series hitting the shelves this month, the franchise has revealed the top 50 players in this years game, and 5 Chelsea players feature in the list.
FIFA is always one of the most anticipated games of the year, and after more exciting features and improvements have been announced for FIFA 16, this year’s game could be bigger and more popular than ever.
The top 50 players are based on their Ultimate Team stats, which reflect last season’s performances, so it is no surprise that a number of Chelsea players are included. The double-winning campaign of 2014/15 saw the Blues bring home both the Premier League and Capital One Cup, with great showings from numerous stars throughout the year.
FIFA Ultimate Team is EA’s most played game mode and each week players have the chance to earn rare ‘inform’ cards for standout performances in real life.
The game will be released on September 22nd in North America, before coming to Europe 2 days later on the 24th. In anticipation, we can reveal the 5 Chelsea players that have made the top 50 list, moving down the rankings from 50 to 1.
Next: John Terry
44: John Terry (CB) 85 rated
After inspiring his team to a double winning season in 2015, Chelsea FC captain John Terry earns a +2 overall rating on last year’s card. He is now the joint 6th highest rated centre-back in this year’s game, with only Mats Hummels (86), Giorgio Chiellini (87), Sergio Ramos (87), Jerome Boateng (87) and Thiago Silva (88) rated higher.
However, Terry’s card only has 34 pace, and avid FIFA players know that a much higher rating in this stat is vital when playing the game. Will you be using Terry in your team? Or does his lack of pace mean that you’ll choose a lower rated player with more speed instead? Let us know in the comments below.

Next: Thibaut Courtois
32: Thibaut Courtois (GK) 86 rated
After forcing Petr Cech out of goal and establishing himself as Chelsea’s number 1 last season, Courtois remains one of the best goalkeepers on the game. With David De Gea being upgraded to 86 as well, the two Premier League keepers are joint second best behind Manuel Neuer (90 rated).
Petr Cech, meanwhile, also makes the top 50 despite having limited playing time last season. Slotting in at 49th position with a rating of 85, the now-Arsenal man is only the fourth keeper that features on the list.
Courtois was a vital part of Chelsea’s league winning side, and fully deserves to keep last years rating. Standing at 6ft 6in, the Belgian is a huge presence between the sticks, and is unlikely to be beaten very much, meaning he should be one of your key players in this year’s edition.

Next: Diego Costa
30: Diego Costa (ST) 86 rated
After a couple of years of lacking up front, Chelsea finally have a world class striker once again. Despite being hampered by numerous hamstring injuries last season, Costa still managed to score 20 goals in the Premier League, just missing out on the golden boot behind Sergio Aguero.
On this year’s FIFA instalment, he keeps his 86 rating from last year’s game, and is the joint 5th highest rated striker. Furthermore, in what is perhaps a reflection of the English top flight’s flailing quality, he is one of only two Premier League strikers that make the list. Manchester City’s Aguero (87 rated) beats him out for bragging rights.
Boasting high ratings in both pace and physical attributes, Costa will certainly be a handful up front in this year’s game.

Next: Cesc Fabregas
16: Cesc Fabregas (CM) 87 rated
After a sparkling start to his Chelsea career, Fabregas certainly deserved an upgrade on his 85 rated card from last year’s edition. However, the midfielder tailed off towards the end of the last campaign and has started this one poorly.
Nonetheless, the Spaniard is the Premier League’s highest rated centre-midfielder, and joint second highest rated on the game, behind former Barcelona teammate Andres Iniesta (88 rated). With 18 assists in the league last time out, Fabregas deserves his 90 rated passing attribute, but should he fade away like he did last term, expect a downgrade in January.
Full stats:
68 Pace 81 Dribbling
78 Shot 64 Defense
90 Passing 65 Physical
Next: Eden Hazard
6: Eden Hazard (LM) 89 rated
After lighting up the league last season, Hazard fully deserves to be the 6th highest rated player in this year’s game, and the Premier League’s best. His +1 overall increase was to be expected, and many believe that he deserves a card rated above 90.
Scoring 14 goals and assisting 9 times in the last campaign, Hazard was seen as the best player in England by players and journalists alike, winning both the PFA and Football Writers’ Player of the Year awards. With his pace and dribbling attributes both rated 90+, Hazard will cause serious problems to any defense. His card will not be cheap of course, but if you can afford the winger, he will certainly be a match winner.
This revelation, though, comes at an interesting time. Hazard has been criticised for starting this campaign poorly, and has admitted that his form has not been up to scratch. However, given that these ratings are largely based on last season’s performances, the Belgian definitely deserves to be Chelsea’s, and the league’s, best player.
