Coaching

Currently Chelsea FC have a coaching staff consisting of Jose Mourinho, Steve Holland, Silvino Louro, Rui Faria and Christophe Lollichon plus the fitness and opposition scouting coaches.

In the all conquering 2004/05 season Chelsea FC’s coaching staff consisted primarily of Jose Mourinho, Steve Clarke, Baltemar Brito, Rui Faria and Silvino Louro plus the fitness and opposition scouting coaches.

The 2004/05 season was particularly notable for our defensive prowess with records being set for the most clean sheets and least number of goals conceded. The point of mentioning this is Steve Clarke was primarily a defensive coach specialist.

Under the existing coaching structure we don’t have a defensive or attacking specialist coach.

So to make the two units work on the training pitch we would need two specialists added to the existing team.

In an ideal world I would employ Gianfranco Zola as the attacking coach and rehire Steve Clarke as the defensive coach, but unfortunately I’m looking at the here and now, so who’s available right now?

On the defensive side I would see if Brendan Rodgers wanted to step in as defensive coach, he did very well with our youth and reserves before and is available!

For the attacking coach I would attempt to prise Pierluigi Casiraghi from his assistant coaching role at Cagliari. Although he is currently employed, it would be a massive statement of intent from the Blues to bring back the Italian legend.

With these 2 in charge of the 2 separate units on the training pitches the players would be able to concentrate primarily on their undoubted skills and the confidence levels would immediately soar again.
