Objective Commentaries

Now let’s play a game called “Match Scenario vs Jim Beglin’s Interpretation”:

  • Harry Kane’s foul on Willian as he ran through the legs of the Brazilian who was making a run on the break (for which he was rightly booked) = another incident of a player cunningly trying to get another player booked.
  • Harry Kane’s elbow into the face of Cesc Fabregas as they both contested an aerial ball with Gary Cahill = an unintentional use of the elbow as he was backing into the Spaniard and didn’t see him as he tried to shield him away from the ball.
  • Erik Lamela’s elbow challenge into the face of Nemanja Matic as both players contested an aerial ball = an unintentional use of the elbow as the Argentinian only lifted his arm to gain extra leaping height and didn’t see the Serbian.
  • Fabregas’ handball in the 18- yard box with the ball striking his arm which was tucked into his chest (which Michael Oliver waved away) = the FA needs to do a review of the law awarding penalties for handballs inside the box if that incident wasn’t a penalty.

I guess it is pretty clear by now which side Jim Berglin was supporting! And for those who do not know, Jim Berglin is Sky Sports’ match commentator for EPL games along with John Champion! And here I was thinking match commentators are expected to be objective while doing match commentaries; guess I was wrong!
