2. Chelsea’s defense needs help

The looming departure of club legend John Terry is a sore topic for many Chelsea supporters. But Monday night’s performance should be a sobering moment for the doubters. Terry seemed to move at pedestrian speed when facing the high-flying attacking Spurs. His lack of mobility was exposed in both of Tottenham’s goals.

Sure it wasn’t helped by Branislav Ivanovic’s sloppy play and additional deficiency of speed, but Terry seemed particularly off the pace. Guus Hiddink recently said that he hopes that the Englishman stays with the club to help mentor younger players, which seems like a perfect compromise.

However, with Kurt Zouma set to miss the beginning of the next campaign, Antonio Conte will likely be keen to bring in new talent. Rumours have linked the Blues with a number of Serie A players and several additions are expected. There are no doubts that serious changes need to be made in Chelsea’s defense next season, with Cesar Azpilicueta being the only player worthy of a stay.
