Chelsea and league narratives heading into the summer

Roy Hodgson would have won manager of the season had Guardiola’s City not broken every record on the books. Crystal Palace were dead in the water when Hodgson arrived to much criticism. Quietly, he rebuilt them tactically and kept them up with plenty of room to spare. If their form continues, they could be challenging for Europe next season under him. They will need to keep their best players and strengthen a bit, but it is possible.
12th AFC Bournemouth 44 Points, -16 GD
Eddie Howe can probably put himself in the category of managers who have taken a side as far as they can go. And he took them incredibly far. From League Two to midtable in the Premier League year after year is impressive. But they are following familiar patterns year after year and eventually that will trend negative. He will stay next year but after that he should start looking for a new challenge.
13th West Ham United 42 Points, -20 GD
At first, David Moyes sacking seemed harsh. Through great criticism and scorn, he kept West Ham up. It was not pretty because they did not have the ability to be and win at the same time. But the signing of Manuel Pellegrini was an excellent one. He will have to squeeze to make this West Ham squad work the way he wants, but if he can, they will be fighting for Europa League all season. It will take time and the question is how much will he be given?
14th Watford 41 Points, -20 GD
Watford neither under or over achieved. They were just there. No one really paid any attention to them after Marco Silva had his head turned and was sacked. Javi Gracia did fine but Watford just were not in a place to have anyone notice. Next season that could change, but honestly, this club goes through managers like tissue paper (or Chelsea) and the next one is just around the corner.
15th Brighton and Hove Albion 40 Points, -20 GD
Chris Hughton used his previous Premier League experience to keep Brighton up at the first chance. It was not always the most exciting of styles but it got the results needed to keep the Seagulls afloat. Now the hard work of the second season will begin. Hughton knows that well and will use the experience to give Brighton the best chance of a prolonged Premier League stay.
