Jorginho, Midfield: 7
The Italian international is fitting himself into the defensive midfielder role as he made some good tackles in the midfield and dispossessed the opposition players. Along with the defensive side of the game, Jorginho kept pinging in long balls for Tammy Abraham and the wingers, one of which led to the defensive blunder which gave Chelsea the second goal. The only thing he needs to work on is his strength and pace, as opponents go past him with ease.
Mateo Kovacic, Midfield: 7
Kovacic is reclaiming his Real Madrid form. He is much sharper on the pitch this season than last, and has the most take-ons completed in the Premier League so far this season.
His direct dribbling style was on display against Sheffield. He dribbled from deep, was quick on the ball and rarely made a bad pass. Kovacic also contributed on the defensive end with tackles and disrupted the opposition’s play, including a vital tackle in the 66′ to recover the ball.
Ross Barkley, Midfield: 6
Getting the nod ahead of Willian to start the game, Barkley misplaced passes, lost possession of the ball, took a free kick that failed to clear the wall and held on to the ball for longer than necessary at times. The only key moment from him was his back-heel pass to Christian Pulisic that started the attack for the first goal.
Other than that, Barkley had a forgetful game and was rightly subbed off at the hour mark.
