Chelsea vs Brighton: Three lessons learnt both on and off the pitch
By Anthony Gatt
3. Our voice matters
This may have nothing to do with the game that happened today and this message may already be clear but this is something that needs to be said. This is not only because I am passionate about it, but this is the message that should never die, regardless of whatever happens next. Football fans across the world used their voice these last couple of days to send a clear and absolute message that without fans, this sport is nothing. These owners do not represent the clubs we all love and never will.
As a Chelsea fan, I was more than disappointed when news dropped on Sunday and although we were the first club to withdraw, the damage has already been done. We must now hold everyone involved accountable for what they’ve done to our game.
We must continue to use our voice to stamp out any injustices that plague our sport—that includes racism and any prejudices that may be present. This obviously applies within our club, but it also means that we must work together as a whole football community. It really shows what happens when money is on the line and how quickly people act as a result. Let’s continue to use our voices to make that reaction the same when any racial injustices occur and the sport will be better for everybody.
There is so much more news to digest, but those are just some of the lessons learnt from this match. Today was a historic day for football, so we must also learn from the actions off the pitch. This news has changed the sport.
