Chelsea predicted XI at Man City: How will Tuchel counter Pep’s 4-3-3?
Christian Pulisic (No. 10) Right attacking midfielder, United States
Tuchel made the decision to bench Christian Pulisic against Real Madrid. Pulisic, however, showed he should have started by coming and running the Real Madrid defense ragged. He created two big chances in 23 minutes that he was on the pitch, contributing to Chelsea’s seven big chances overall. Pulisic is in good form, and while many do not understand why Pulisic didn’t start against Real Madrid, he should start against Guardiola’s men.
Kai Havertz (No. 29) Center forward, Germany
Kai Havertz kicked on from his performance against Fulham, but not with goals. His movement was exquisite again, constantly pulling the Real Madrid centerbacks around and getting behind them. Havertz seems to be the temporary solution to Chelsea’s center forward dilemma, it’s yet to be seen whether he can be a long-term solution though. Borussia Dortmund seems sure Erling Haaland is staying at Dortmund for at least another year, and Inter Milan seem just as sure about Romelu Lukaku. Chelsea now needs to look to other non-big name strikers. Havertz is showing that the Blues could be making a mistake looking outside, as they may already have their man.
Timo Werner (No. 11) Left attacking midfielder, Germany
Timo Werner created two big chances against Real Madrid, he also scored a goal. He was excellent against Los Blancos. He has come under quite a lot of heat in recent times for his lack of a good number of goals in a worrying amount of games. Werner stepped up in recent matches, creating one clear cut chance against Fulham and then creating two against the Galacticos. The German has the most goal involvements in the league. “He’s played a large number games,” well, so has Mason Mount. Yet, Mount is called a creator for picking up 11 big chances in 33 games.
