Chelsea vs Southampton predicted XI: No choice but 3-4-2-1 again
Hakim Ziyech (No. 22) Right winger, Morocco
Hakim Ziyech gave a good account of himself against Norwich City. He made that one touch pass between three players to put Loftus-Cheek though on goal, who squared it to Mount for his hat-trick. He won three out of five duels, completed 100 percent of two dribbles, had one shot on target and created two chances. He did all of that from 16 touches. Ziyech has received a lot of blame for Chelsea’s creativity issues this season for someone that had only played 98 Premier League minutes before the Norwich game. It’s almost like he’s being blamed for dislocating his shoulder. A lot of the aforementioned people still want Kai Havertz to start though. Baffling, that.
Kai Havertz (No. 29) Center forward, Germany
Havertz was more or less anonymous against Norwich. This would have been unsurprising, had it not being Norwich. Havertz is not a good option at center forward, but he often does well when he plays against extremely disorganized or open defenses. Chelsea has no choice though and Havertz has to start again due to injuries to Timo Werner and Romelu Lukaku. He will do well to imprint his presence on the Southampton game though.
Callum Hudson-Odoi (No. 20) Left winger, England
Callum Hudson-Odoi played very well against Norwich. His fans were baited with out of context quotes from Tuchel. Of course, the benchmark to get into the team permanently is not a superb performance against Norwich, but a great performance against Norwich will go a long way in putting himself in contention. Tuchel was calling for consistency from the youngster, which is what every fan has been calling for since 2017. The message Tuchel was passing was clear. This is another opportunity for Hudson-Odoi to give a good account of himself.
