1. Sam Kerr against Manchester United

Competition: Women’s Super League

Date: March 12, 2023

In the first contest against a competent opponent following the Conti Cup final loss, the Blues had a chance to go top of the WSL table. Marc Skinner’s Manchester United was coming to Kingsmeadow having netted seven goals in their previous two league matches combined. Just like last season, the Australian Kerr punished the Red Devils in front of the Kingsmeadow faithful. From beyond half field, James sent a stunning pass over the top of the United defense. Her pass found Kerr in stride who controlled it with her chest and chipped it into the bottom left corner.

It was Kerr’s fourth goal against the reds of Manchester in the last three matches in the league. Skinner’s side had their chances late in the match, but it was once again a moment of magic from Kerr that would make all the difference. Relive this goal, soak in its cleverness while appreciating the quality that two of the league’s most talented attacking player possess.

If the Blues’ No. 20 had missed that chance in front of goal, she would have robbed James of one of the most jaw-dropping assists of her career. You could make an argument for any of these goals to be No. 1, but this won sticks out due to the precise pass, clean finish, and quality of opposition. The west London outfit gave Man U its only losses of their WSL season, making this a dagger that would put all the power in the hands of the Blues going into the final few months.
