Nemanja Matic Signs With Chelsea FC

No more speculation and no more “will he, wont he?” when it comes to this transfer! Chelsea FC’s official website confirmed today that Benfica midfielder Nemanja Matic has signed a 5-year deal with the London club after they completed the 25 million Euro transfer. He makes his triumphant return to Stamford Bridge after spending two and a half years in Lisbon. Matic is a box to box midfielder with excellent vision and a wonderful shot which was on full display in his goal that was a contender for FIFA goal of the year in 2013.

The only small downside to this deal is that Matic is cup-tied so he will not be participating in the UEFA Champion’s League. However as serious Premiership title contenders and FA Cup challengers, Matic will have plenty of big games to impress the Chelsea faithful.

Matic was recognized as the Primeira Liga Player of the Year after the 2012/13 season and we can only hope that his great run of form continues when he wears the Chelsea blue once again. His style is reminiscent of Manchester City’s midfield general Yaya Toure and if he makes anything close to the impact Toure does on matches, he will be a Chelsea legend in no time.
