Liverpool FC forward and Chelsea FC loanee Victor Moses had his first bright moment of his season at Anfield during Saturday’s Fourth Round FC Cup match against AFC Bournemouth. Moses scored what was eventually the winning goal in the 26th minute as Liverpool cruised to an easy 2-0 victory against the Cherries. In his post match interview Moses was asked about the importance of starting and scoring for his loan side.

Moses replied with the following:

"“It was really important; I know I haven’t been myself for the past few weeks. But I started and got a goal today. I just want to kick on from here and try to get a few more goals in the second half of the season. It’s crucial for me and the club as well. It’s up to the manager to pick his own players. I just want to keep on working hard in training and hopefully play as many games as I can.”"

The Nigerian international’s loan spell at the Merseyside club has been anything but productive as he has struggled to earn regular minutes and has been largely ineffective when he is on the pitch. Originally brought in by Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers to add experience to a young midfield, Moses has been displaced by youngster Raheem Sterling who has been in fine form for the Reds.

This weekend’s performance can be a catalyst for Moses to earn more minutes with Liverpool right in the thick of the competition for European places. Matches will come fast and often and the experience Moses offers can be invaluable to such a young team. Chelsea brass appear to know what Moses has to offer but the better the Nigerian plays, the more valuable he becomes, and the higher the price he can command on the transfer market. If he does indeed have a breakout second half of the season then all the better and he can return to the Chelsea fold to add depth as they challenge for titles for years to come.
