Fernando Torres Has Recovered From Injury

The official Chelsea FC website reported today that striker Fernando Torres returned from injury and was training with the first team again. Torres had been out since suffering a knee injury in the 3-0 victory against Manchester United when he was brought on late in the match for Samuel Eto’o. Other than the long term injury Marco Van Ginkel suffered in the summer Torres was the only player on the squad not available in recent matches. Some pundits have attributed that to manager Jose Mourinho’s squad rotation and training style but some injuries are inevitable.

The news confirmed here by the club:

"The players resumed training on Wednesday following Monday night’s win in Manchester and the Chelsea TV cameras were there to show Fernando Torres back with the squad as they headed onto the Cobham pitch."

Torres had been on a solid run of form before his injury and he had scored goals in his two starts prior to the United match. It seems that in the past few years every time Torres would get on a roll he would suffer a setback. These setbacks would come in the form of silly suspensions because of red cards or injuries. With some big upcoming fixtures in the Premier League, Champions League, and FA Cup coming up Chelsea needs all the healthy bodies at striker it can get. Samuel Eto’o has been in fine form as well but backup striker Demba Ba has failed to impress in any of his last appearances and has not started for since early December.
