Today’s video comes to you from YouTube user Thomas Lundberg and is a short feature about Chelsea FC’s legendary keeper Petr Cech. The video covers some of the Czech Republic international’s recent highlight saves with a focus on his contributions to the club during Chelsea’s legendary run to the Champions League trophy in 2012. Lundberg also touches on the skull fracture Cech suffered against Reading in October of 2006 in a seemingly harmless collision with Stephen Hunt. Cech was taken to a nearby hospital and it was reported that he could have lost his life had doctors not acted fast enough. Thankfully, Cech returned to the field only three months later and reclaimed his place as Chelsea’s number one.

The highlight of the video is undoubtedly the sequence about the saves Cech made in the Champions League, especially the ones he made during the final itself. The penalty against Arjen Robben in extra time stands out as big of a moment as Drogba’s equalizer in the second half. Cech also saved two penalties in the shootout that sealed the victory for the Blues. As he says himself in the video, he guessed the right direction all six times, touched four of them, and knew he was due for a big save which he delivered against Ivica Olic and Bastian Schweinsteiger. It was only fitting that the first man Drogba embraced after his game winning penalty was Petr Cech, as he deserved to be honored and recognized for all he gave the team that day.
