Chelsea FC loanee Oriol Romeu has experienced an up and down season on loan at Spanish side Valencia but with his return from injury this week, things may be looking up for the youngster. Romeu suffered a knee injury in early February and the diagnosis was that he would be out for four to six weeks. Nearly right on schedule the midfielder is ready for first team action again and will look to feature in the Europa League match against Bulgarian side Ludogorets.

Before the injury, the young Spaniard was beginning to establish himself in the heart of Valencia’s midfield with some excellent performances. He has started nine matches for Los Che and was becoming a regular before suffering the knee cartilage injury. Valencia is currently sitting at eighth in the La Liga table and have no relegation issues to worry about so they can afford to give Romeu plenty of minutes. This is especially important if the rumors of a permanent move to the Spanish club are true. Despite making a significant number of appearances in a Chelsea shirt, the youngster’s future at Stamford Bridge looks bleak.

Unfortunately for Romeu, he plays in a position of strength for Chelsea, especially with the addition of Nemanja Matic and the the deployment of David Luiz in central midfield. However, if Frank Lampard and John Obi Mikel both depart in the summer then the position could open up and Romeu could make a case to be included in the senior squad. He will face stiff competition from Marco Van Ginkel and fellow loanee Nathaniel Chalobah but if Romeu has shown anything in his career, it is his ability to fight back after adversity.
