Chelsea FC have not challenged for the Premier League title for several years and midfielder Frank Lampard is relishing this year’s title chase. The Blues last won the domestic title in 2009-10 under Carlo Ancelotti but since then the closest they have come is a distant second to Manchester United in 2010-11. In 2011-12, the year they won the FA Cup and Champions League double, they finished in 6th place and only qualified for the Champions League by virtue of winning it. This year however, Chelsea has been in the title discussion all season and currently sit precariously at the top of the table and Lampard is loving every minute of it.

Frank Lampard on Chelsea being contenders in the Premier League title race:

"“It’s great to be in this position, we’ve had a couple of years, two or three years, off the pace, finishing short. It’s great to be back in the race and to feel that around the club, to feel we’re fighting for the title rather than fighting for fourth place. It feels good.”"

Frank Lampard is not a man who enjoys finishing second in any competition. He is a man who is used to winning trophies every year whether domestic or European and this year, which could be his last, could easily see him win none at all. Chelsea hold a precarious lead given Liverpool’s current form and Manchester City’s games in hand and still face a tough road in the Champions League. Surely if you ask the England midfielder if he would rather be in the discussion and lose or be an also-ran he would certainly choose the former.
