Mohamed Salah celebrating his debut goal against Arsenal FC

In Saturday’s rout of Arsenal FC, the sixth goal of the match was scored by Chelsea FC substitute Mohamed Salah just four minutes after he replaced Oscar in midfield. It was Salah’s first goal for Chelsea in four appearances since he arrived from Basel FC in late January and it was a fine one indeed. A smart run to stay onside was rewarded with a lovely pass by Nemanja Matic and Salah was off to the races. He coolly slotted it home past Arsenal keeper Wojciech Szczęsny to complete the rout.

Mohamed Salah on his debut goal for Chelsea and his relationship with Mourinho:

"“It’s my first goal with the team (Chelsea), so I hope it will be a good start. I congratulate myself and all the people who supported me following my arrival here. Thankfully, I’m living up to the expectations of the technical staff and I hope I will score more goals. My relationship with Mourinho is very good. He motivated me before the game and told me that I would score today, I am working with the best coach in the world.”"

Jose Mourinho celebrated the goal like it was a game-winner and Salah’s teammates rallied around him to celebrate. Mourinho was asked about Salah’s performance and he backed him for more important performances next season by saying: “For Salah it’s more difficult, he’s younger and coming from a different environment and culture. He needs even more time but we believe he will be an important player for us next season”.

The young Egyptian star has not been given many opportunities to impress in a Chelsea shirt this season but that is largely due to his inexperience and not a lack of form. Mourinho is looking to bring Salah along slowly and allow him to adapt and develop in the Premier League. Chelsea fans all know that he can be dangerous in European competitions and Blues faithful were certainly happy to see Salah score for them and not against them for once.
