Chelsea FC manager Jose Mourinho did not hold back after his team’s incredibly disappointing defeat to Premier League relegation candidates Crystal Palace. When asked what quality his side was missing in the defeat, Mourinho replied that he could not say it out loud and that he would have to write it. He grabbed a notepad and then wrote in capital letters the word “BALLS” and circled it emphatically. What he should have said was, we lack a striker other than Samuel Eto’o with balls. It was this lack of a consistent striker, or a pair of them as Liverpool has shown, that has made all the difference this season.

Mourinho on Chelsea’s chances of winning the title:

"“Now we have lost our chance of finishing first. Now we depend too much on other results. When it depends a little it is possible. When it is a lot, it isn’t. I know mathematically it is still possible. But one thing is mathematics and one thing is reality. I don’t think it’s going to happen.”"

Throughout the season, Mourinho has been downplaying the Blues’ chances of winning the title and yesterday he finally said out right that they will not win the title. There is definitely a chance that Manchester City and Liverpool can drop points the way Chelsea has but the difference between Liverpool and Chelsea is that the Reds do not drop points against lower level opposition.

Liverpool must still face Manchester City and Chelsea and if all things go according to Chelsea’s plan, that match at Anfield could be the title decider. Everyone has their own theories and the fans have surely worked out what has to go right or wrong for their team to win the title but the bottom line is that they have to win every match in the run in and Chelsea have failed to do so.
