Frank Lampard: I Can Play 2-3 More Years For Chelsea FC

Chelsea FC star Frank Lampard spoke with Sky Sports on Saturday after the win against Stoke City and said that he feels that he can play another two or three more years for the Blues. The midfielder scored on a penalty rebound against Stoke and came within inches of scoring against PSG courtesy of a deflected free kick. He had a fine performance against PSG and was substituted for Demba Ba as the Blues were chasing a goal, not because of a performance issue.

Lampard has had a fine year for the Blues with six goals in the Premier League in 24 appearances. The goals and appearances are not up to his usual high standard of 30-plus games and double digit goals but he has seen his role reduced to accommodate his age and other players in the center of midfield. He has still been a key member of the squad and his leadership and personality in the locker room is massive for a club in transition, at least according to Jose Mourinho.

Lampard on his status and future with Chelsea:

"“I am enjoying playing my football, I am loving it and seeing the development of the new squad and you become and older hand and help them, I am enjoying the role. I have always said I want to play for another two or three years, at the minute and as long as I am fit and feeling fresh I will do that.”"

At 35 years old, Lampard’s days at the top may be running short but he still has much to give to the club. The Chelsea midfield is changing and the brass has brought in players like Nemanja Matic and Marco Van Ginkel as the eventual replacements for Lampard in the heart of it. The club’s policy of only giving one year deals to players 30 and older may cut Lampard’s time here a little short but if he is to leave this summer then we hope he can be given a proper sendoff with some silverware in his final season.
