Chelsea FC’s Petr Cech: Can Liverpool Handle The Pressure?

Chelsea FC goalkeeper Petr Cech has been wondering aloud if title rivals Liverpool can handle the pressure as the teams go in to the final stretch of the Barclay’s Premier League season. The Reds of Liverpool have seen their hopes of winning their first title in the Premier League era boosted by ten straight victories. With four games left, and one against Chelsea at Anfield on April 27th, Liverpool will win the title if they win out. The pressure is mounting and Cech is right to ask if the team from Merseyside can handle the pressure.

Petr Cech on Liverpool coping with the pressure:

"“No-one expected anything from Liverpool and they are in contention and that is why they play without pressure so far, but let’s see how they are going to cope when it comes to the last hurdle. They will have to jump over it and they have been doing remarkably well. We have things in our hands. We need to wait for one slip-up from Manchester City, but if we win our games we have a chance. At the start, everyone has 38 games to have the most points and I don’t think at the end of 38 games it is a question of luck. The one who gets the most points obviously deserves to win the title, so we will see who it will be. It is great to put ourselves in a situation where we know we have a chance. So we will go for it. If we win all of our games, right at the end we will be in contention.”"

Teams like Liverpool, Manchester City, and of course Liverpool have been dropping points left and right all season long. All three teams have had the chance to wrap up the title race but they have all stumbled at different times. City at Arsenal and Chelsea at Aston Villa. Liverpool have dropped points against bottom of the table sides and with matches against Norwich City, Crystal Palace, and Newcastle United coming up they may do so again. This stretch of the season is when champions are made, but only if they can leap over these final hurdles.
