Brazilian national team manager Luiz Felipe Scolari has revealed that he plans to take four of Chelsea FC’s Brazilian players to the 2014 World Cup in their home country. David Luiz, Willian, Ramires, and Oscar have all made the squad with the two other Brazilians on loan, Wallace and Lucas Piazon, still a few years away from even being considered. Chelsea’s significant representation in the highest profile team in the tournament will do well to boost the club’s already global profile and certainly having World Cup winners in the squad will be a benefit next season.

Felipe Scolari has also recognized the leadership abilities of one Chelsea player in particular in David Luiz. David Luiz is already an inspiring figure in the Chelsea dressing room and his positive attitude and love for the game rubs off on his teammates and motivates them to improve their games. Luiz will partner with captain Thiago Silva, Toronto FC’s Julio Cesar and Fluminense FC’s Fred as the leaders of the Brazilian Seleccao.

Felipe Scolari on his leaders and his chosen squad:

"“My chosen leaders are David Luiz, Julio Cesar and Fred. I had already chosen them and I’ve been talking to them a little more during some trips. I have no doubts about my final list, but I will wait until the end of the leagues. I could have some last-minute problems, like [Napoli’s] Henrique, who was in an accident. Not even [Carlos Alberto] Parreira, [Flavio] Murtosa or the chairman [Jose Maria Marin] know about the final list. But we shouldn’t have many surprises. You would probably guess 22 out of the 23."

Scolari also revealed that he would be rooting for Chelsea FC’s opponent in the Champions League, albeit for selfish reasons because he wants four well-rested players in his camp for the World Cup. Apparently Big Phil does not put much stock on his players coming in to the camp buzzing from winning major silverware but his concerns are certainly warranted. Let’s hope our Brazilians feel a little differently about that situation and take some winners’ medals to Rio.
