John Shittu, the agent of Chelsea FC midfielder John Obi Mikel confirmed that Inter Milan is a possibility for Mikel but maintains that he is under contract with Chelsea. Shittu made comments earlier in the week that Mikel would not be leaving the club for any reason and that he would stay to fight for his place at Stamford Bridge but he seems to be singing a different tune now. Inter Milan owner Erick Thorir has been mentioning Mikel as a possible target all season long, which is a strange tactic, but whether its actually going to happen is still up in the air.

John Shittu’s comments to FcInterNews.it.

"“Inter? What I can tell you is that I met with my client and the directors and they are interested in him. He is a great player who won the Champions League and the Africa Cup of Nations, so he is suited to the Nerazzurri’s standards. Inter are a possibility, but right now Mikel is a Chelsea player. I cannot tell you anything more on the negotiations. The fact remains that Mikel now has a contract with the Blues.”"

This sounds like typical agent speak when his client is in the middle of a possible transfer saga. Shittu is talking up his client as he is supposed to do by listing his accomplishments but it could just be a way to raise his price tag or convince Chelsea to move him up the pecking order. If Mikel is to leave then the price tag is estimated to be around £12 million which is pennies these days for a full international.

Some reports suggest that Inter would prefer to take Mikel on loan to avoid paying the transfer fee which may work out better for Chelsea because a stellar season in Italy may raise his price tag that much more. Mikel will also be keen to impress Chelsea or any of his suitors at the World Cup this summer. Whatever happens this is a developing story and one that we will follow all summer long.
