According to reports in UK newspaper The Guardian, Atletico Madrid and Spain striker Diego Costa has passed his Chelsea FC medical and is set to sign with the Blues. The Brazilian-born Spanish striker is in Brazil with the Spanish national team preparing for the World Cup and is reportedly on the verge of a £32 million transfer after completing his medical.

The reports suggest that Chelsea have agreed to pay Diego Costa’s buyout clause of £32 million but as we all know with these transfers the numbers reported may not be the actual fee paid. Despite Jose Mourinho saying that no moves will be made until after the World Cup, all signs point to this deal being completed within the next week. The World Cup officially starts on June 11th so the question remains if the club will announce the deal before that or make the deal and wait until after the tournament to announce it.

According to The Guardian, they believe that Mourinho has identified Diego Costa as the man that will help Chelsea lift the Premier League trophy next season after they finished four points short with three misfiring strikers. Mourinho would often mention the lack of a striker with a killer instinct as the reason Chelsea was not ready to be true title challengers and any one could see that it was the obvious deficiency in the squad.

Diego Costa is coming off a tremendous season for Atletico Madrid as he helped lead his side to its first La Liga trophy since 1996. Costa boasted a fantastic goalscoring record this season with 27 goals in 34 league starts and eight goals in the Champions League. He outscored all three Chelsea strikers combined in the league and is hitting the prime of his career. If the reports are true then Chelsea will once again have the big physical striker to strike fear in their opponents and bully opposing defenses.
