With Belgium already having clinched a spot in the round of 16, Algeria and South Korea knew whoever won the game would be in an excellent position to do the same. A draw would leave one spot open for the three remaining teams.

The game started off entertaining, especially when compared to the Belgium vs Russia game that was on prior. Both teams looked to be intent on playing attacking football, and get numbers forward whenever possible. Unfortunately for South Korea, they were on the bad end of the first goal, which resulted in a snowball effect. Islam Slimani got the scoring started with a tap finish from close range, next Rafik Halliche converted with a powerful header from a corner. Abdelmoumene Djabou then got in on the scoring making it 3-0. The rout was on, with the South Koreans looking likely to concede even more in the second half.

The second half picked up right where the first left off in terms of goals scored. South Korea got off to a hot start after Son Heung-Min found the back of the net in the 50th minute. Just as it looked like they had found their footing, Yacine Brahimi capped a wondeful move that put Algeria back up three. Koo Ja-Cheol would score another for South Korea, but it wouldn’t be nearly enough as they fall to Algeria, 4-2.

With the result, Algeria, South Korea, and Russia all still hace a chance to advance to the round of 16.
