Chelsea FC defender Filipe Luis made his debut in the Blues’ first team debut against WAC RZ Pellets and played well in his 60 minutes of action. Luis started at leftback in a strong defensive backline that included John Terry, Kurt Zouma, and Branislav Ivanovic. He was also joined by Petr Cech who was seeing his first game action since his shoulder injury against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League semifinal.

Filipe Luis is the first of Chelsea’s new signings to make his debut as Diego Costa and Cesc Fabregas have yet to make their debuts in a Chelsea shirt. Luis was an alternate for the Brazil squad but was not involved in the World Cup so he has been training with Atletico Madrid for weeks so he is likely fit enough to play 90 minutes.

Here are some Twitter reactions to Filipe Luis’s performance:

The Brazilian defender looked composed on the ball and seemed comfortable spraying balls forward and his distribution was of the highest quality. The most impressive aspect of Luis’s game is that he already seemed to be well in sync with John Terry. The commentators attributed that to the fact that he speaks English very well so there would be no language barrier between him and his backline partners.

Filipe Luis also looked quite good in the Chelsea home strip and looked at home in the Chelsea lineup. This debut was a small taste of what he has to offer and it will be very exciting to see him grow and develop in to a true blue Chelsea defender.
