Petr Cech Is Ready To Fight For Chelsea FC Place

Despite reports that Chelsea FC are ready to sell Petr Cech to the highest bidder to make room for Thibaut Courtois, the Czech Republic goalkeeper confirmed that he will fight for his place in Jose Mourinho’s starting eleven this season. Cech suffered a shoulder dislocation at the end of last season and many thought that it would be his last appearance in a Chelsea uniform. Instead, he has made his return ahead of schedule and has featured in Chelsea’s preseason tour.

His main competition in Thibaut Courtois has yet to arrive from his post-World Cup holiday but he has told the media that he has his eyes set on the number one keeper shirt. Courtois said that having him and Petr Cech on the same team was not “ideal” but luckily for us the club does not make decisions based on the whims of a 22 year old keeper no matter how good he is. From what Cech has said it appears that Courtois will have to learn to live with the fact that he is not the unquestioned starter.

Petr Cech on his place at Chelsea FC:

"“I’m staying at Chelsea, that for sure. I really don’t mind that there are two great keepers at Chelsea. That motivates me ever more. You always have to fight if you want to be on great level. And there is not only Courtouis and me, even Matej Delac is showing that he is great keeper.”Source: Sky Sports"

If real life was like manager mode in FIFA, Chelsea could simply rotate its two world class keepers and be just fine. The real world is a bit more complicated than that and these players, Courtois in particular, seem to have large enough egos where that could be a problem. Petr Cech has earned the right to be stubborn about his place at Chelsea and if Courtois wants to prove he can be the man for the Blues then he will have to play at the highest level. Hopefully these two bring out the best in each other which would be the best situation for all parties involved.
