Chelsea FC youngster Christian Atsu’s loan move to Everton has been rumored for several weeks now but no progress has been made according to Toffees’ manager Roberto Martinez. When asked by ESPNFC.com if Everton had come any closer to signing the Ghanaian midfielder the manager simply replied by saying “No. There’s nothing to comment on.”

The talented winger was was excellent for Vitesse Arnhem last year and will be sorely missed and will be difficult for the Dutch side to replace. Atsu was named the player of the year last season and was one of the few players to maintain his form as the Dutch side struggled after the turn of the new year.

The young midfielder truly burst on to the scene in this summer’s World Cup. Christian Atsu put in a potential man of the match performance against the United States had his side managed to pull off the victory against the Americans. His pace and trickery gave Demarcus Beasley fits and his ability to come inside and shoot with his left foot was a thorn in Tim Howard’s side. He was not able to find the back of the net this World Cup but he was one of the bright spots for the Black Stars and is certainly a big player for the future for them.

One of the concerns some Chelsea fans have is that recently departed forward Romelu Lukaku may try and convince Christian Atsu to force a permanent move to Everton. On the other hand, Roberto Martinez has made good use of loan players in the past with Barcelona’s Gerard Delofeu and Romelu Lukaku as recent examples of that. If Everton and Martinez were to utilize Atsu the way he was deployed at Vitesse then the loan will be mutually beneficial for all parties involved.
