After Chelsea FC announced Fernando Torres’s loan move to AC Milan it was simply a matter of time for the club to go out and purchase another striker. It was one thing to go in to the season with Diego Costa, Fernando Torres, and Didier Drogba but another to only have two recognized strikers. So the club has apparently gone out and purchased Queens Park Rangers and France international forward Loic Remy.

The reported fee for Loic Remy is the £8 million release clause that QPR placed in the forward’s contract. Some fans believed that Chelsea could have gotten a better deal on the striker but £8m for an experienced and proven Premier League forward is a bargain by any measurement.

QPR manager Harry Redknapp on Loic Remy’s transfer:

"“The deal looks like it has been done, so I had to make a change. He was in the team. I just got a phone call about 12 o’clock to say it looks like he is going to be moving. He didn’t refuse to play, but it’s difficult to go out there to play and get your head around it.”Source: BBC.com"

Loic Remy has spent a season and a half in the Premier League so far and has been an impressive force for Newcastle United and Queens Park Rangers. In 41 appearances he has scored 20 goals and has also scored five goals in 23 appearances for France. He is a quite prolific striker considering the supporting cast surrounding him and will do just fine in Chelsea colors.

He is used to leading the line but he will have to be content with being the second striker at Chelsea. Remy will have to compete with Didier Drogba for the second striker position but with Chelsea playing in so many competitions he will certainly get his opportunity. He represents another bit of smart business by the Chelsea brass and will do well in reinforcing the Blues’ squad.
