The Jose Mourinho – Fernando Torres Lovefest Continues

It never seemed that Jose Mourinho and Fernando Torres had a great relationship but if the recent comments are to be believed, the pair were apparently the best of friends. In his latest comments about the departed striker, Fernando Torres is a “great professional” and he is a “fantastic boy”.

More from Chelsea FC News

Fernando Torres recently told the media that Jose Mourinho is a great manager and that he learned so much from him. It is not clear what he could have learned from Mourinho in a single season where he was at times the fourth choice striker at Chelsea. Under Mourinho, Fernando Torres did not even have his trademark false dawn last season but he did score a few important goals.

"“I’m an Interista and I would have preferred if he’d gone to Inter. However, I hope that he does equally well at Milan. What I can say about Fernando is that as a person and a professional, there is nothing to doubt about him. He’s a fantastic boy and a great professional. However, he needed a change of scenery.”-Jose MourinhoSource: Sky Sports"

Mourinho was certainly right about a few things when it comes to Fernando Torres. The striker has been a great professional and even when he was left out of the squad he did not complain about it in the media. He could have improved his body language when he was sulking but no one is perfect.

The last bit about the change of scenery is very much spot on. Torres had a long history of failure at Chelsea and he could never escape that as long as he was playing in blue. He needed a change to the slower and more open game of the Serie A to try and revitalize his game and find his goalscoring touch. If only this move happened earlier for the sake of all parties involved.
