Chelsea FC: Diego Costa Claims He Is Fit For Spain

Diego Costa has had an interesting injury history since the beginning of the Premier League season. Ahead of the clash with Everton, there were reports that the striker would be out for several months but instead he started and scored twice against the Toffees. Just a few days later Diego Costa was back in action against France in a friendly but supposedly aggravated the hamstring injury enough to miss the Euro 2015 qualifier against Macedonia.

Just five days after the missed qualifier, Diego Costa was a terror for the Swans as he scored a hat trick against Swansea City. There were more ups and downs as he was rested against Schalke 04 but returned for the match against Manchester City. After the City match, Jose Mourinho claimed that Diego Costa was not even training because of the severity of his injury and hoped that Vincente Del Bosque would not select him for the next international break. Then Mourinho started Diego Costa against Lisbon just three days later and said that the striker will be in the lineup against Arsenal this coming weekend.

Well it appears that Diego Costa is also letting everyone know that he is healthy enough for a callup to the Spain squad. Costa said, “If I played 90 minutes it’s clear that I’m okay. I am feeling better all the time, and it is the Vicente del Bosque’s decision. During the week I have been working intensively with the physios because I have had some discomfort for a while.”

So could it be that Diego Costa was dealing with a tweaked hamstring early on in the season and is now healthy? Or was it simply mindgames from Mourinho to keep him off the Spain radar and give him the extra breaks he believed Diego Costa needs. Whatever the case may be, Jose Mourinho has no bearing on whether or not Diego Costa is called up for Spain but hopefully Del Bosque will let him rest considering the weak opposition in Slovakia and Luxembourg they will face during the break.
